The history of Rehoboth captured in flashbacks from the early beginnings in 1999 when the vision was born up to now. Further see also our newsletters of the last years for history information.

 

Flashbacks 2010

November

  • 6 new children's houses are near completion

August

  • 4 International teams visited Rehoboth from the USA (2x), Canada and the UK.

June

  • Leveling of platforms of the new village finished
  • Start was made with building the 2nd children's village

May

  • 18th of May Rehoboth received DFA rezoning approval in principal to start building its 2nd children's village

  • 2009 was a year of consolidation of the first village and preparation for expanding Rehoboth with another children's village

  • KZN Housing officially opens the last 5 houses built

  • Rehoboth celebrated its 5th anniversary at the smallholding on the 3rd of January "when god made it a reality"
  • Unit 7 opened and occupied

  • Start renovating the group accommodation

  • Started building 2 more houses (units 7 & 8)

  • Started building clinic room
  • Calf born at Rehoboth
  • 4 new children arrive at Rehoboth

January 2006

  • 500 macadamia trees planted
  • Unit 6 operational and all houses running at full capacity within two weeks
  • 1 new child arrives at Rehoboth

December 2005

  • Intercom / switchboard installed connecting all the houses.

November 2005

  • 1 New child arrives at Rehoboth.

  • Ozone therapy machine donated.

  • Golf volkswagen donated.

October 2005

  • Rehoboth officially registered as a "children's home".

September 2005

  • Renovations of management staff house finalised and the family Sullivan moved in.

August 2005

  • 7 New children arrive in August 2005!

July 2005

  • 1 New child arrives at Rehoboth.

  • End of July 2005, unit 6 finalised building. Rehoboth closed building phase II with finishing unit 6.

June 2005

  • House units 4 & 5 occupied by two housemothers and children.

May 2005

  • 1 New child arrives at Rehoboth.

March 2005

  • Ryan & Cherisse Sullivan join Rehoboth in the Management Team

  • Elisha placed into a foster care family in the Izingolweni area

  • Beginning of March a start is made with the building of house units 4 & 5

  • 1 New child arrives at Rehoboth

February 2005

  • Rehoboth buys a tipper truck to make Rehoboth more self-sustainable

January 2005

  • “Naomi” arrives at Rehoboth being 8-days old!

  • Simone Olivier and David & Glen Smith come out as international volunteers for three months

  • Exodus team from Ireland helps Rehoboth with maintenance and installation work

  • Building of the 2nd unit started

  • N. arrived on the 15th of April at Rehoboth

  • Taking temporarily on a baby of 2 months on a place of safety form

  • Renovations of 3 bedroom transition unit speeds up

  • Talks started for setting up a foundation services organization

  • 10 December: N. comes to Rehoboth

  • Hayato and Leena go on furlough to New Zealand and Japan

  • First official foster mother on probation

  • Tremendous building progress of the 1st unit.

May 2002

  • Flat renovation finishes

  • Water system is operational: watertanks being installed & the borehole is working.
  • New electricity cables installed with new electricity distribution house being built.

April 2002

  • Building of the first unit has started

  • Renovation of Office and Boardroom finished

  • Office equipment being bought and administration processes development started

March 2002

  • Borehole being drilled and water found at 120 meter deep

  • The renovation of the transition unit is almost finished.

  • A start has been made with building the first unit as well. The ground has been made equal in order for the builders to lay the foundation.

February 2002

  • Dutch donor funds bore-hole which will probably be drilled middle of March

  • An Australian fundraising organisation funds the first unit

  • Dutch donor funds office, kitchen & some unit equipment.

January 2002

  • Renovation of the top part of cottage into first transition unit has started

  • 8 January: L. makes her first walk without any help

  • 3 January: property purchased to develop foster-care village


Flashbacks 2001

December 2001

  • 1 December: 2nd instalment for property paid

  • All funds have been received for the final payment due 3rd of January 2002 to buy the property. We thank God for answering our prayers for the finances.

  • Website of Rehoboth up and running.

  • Rehoboth is now in the process of making plans how to occupy the existing buildings on the property and where to build the first unit(s) for dedicated care for more babies and toddlers who are HIV+ or are having AIDS. Pray for us that we have wisdom to make the right decisions & that the needed money for building the units will be provided.

  • British High Commissioner has given a grant to renovate the flat into a transition unit. The renovation will start after the transfer of the property has been completed on the 3rd of January.

November 2001

  • 29 November: The Trust entered into the register of Non-Profit Organisations with the Department of Social Development

  • 26 November: David & Glen Smith leave for UK

  • 13 November: Nathan van der Galiën was born

  • 11 November: First Open Day at Rehoboth property

  • 3 November: Johan & Nel Knol moved to property with L. & L.
